Wondering Where They Are Now

For the last 2 years my mind has gone wondering how these American legends are doing. 3 beautiful animals that came into my life, some I had over a year. Peppermint candies were a favorite treat to my "old" boys who first started off shy and reserved. Our mare was a love bug who wanted please a person and at times could drown you in her love. Sadly due to moving out of the state I had let them go and it has haunted me since then. You can't imagine what it is like to see their faces in your dreams or walk up to the barn I swear you heard their nickers. I would love to know who has them now and just let the owners know that if for some odd reason they could no longer care nor want these horses, I would gladly step up and offer them a home. Each of these animals are dearly unique in their own way, like Bruja the mare loves getting her under belly rubbed a certain way. Sunny is a very very special horse that is from West Douglas Creek HMA, that is zeroed out now. He has a scar that runs from his right side of his neck by the jugular vein all the way around to hard scar tissue to the left by his BLM brand. Tule is my lazy boy, he doesn't like to canter much but walks and trots rarely, it looks like he shuffling. he also likes to stand strangely but will give and try 110% for a peppermint candy. If you have any of these horses please drop me a e-mail, we can chat and I can fill in any back history from spring 2006 and past years.

Thank you

TIGER

I have a titled, 12.1 hand, 6 year old gelding burro for sale.  He is good with his feet, leads, loads, and ties, and best of all, he packs, and will readily go over wooden foot bridges.

Tiger is a zebra striped gray dun with collar buttons.

Approved (burro crazy) home only.  :)

Make offer. We’re located in the middle of the top third of California.

2 BURROS NEED HOMES

Neither one is halter trained. They are in a 5 acre pasture during the day and return to their corral on their on every evening. They have been together for two years and have become very bonded.

Both are titled BLM donkeys. They are located in La Grange, CA, which is 30 mile east of Modesto.

We can be contacted by email at  bumstead@joimail.com.

Thank you ,  Jerry & Carol Malmstedt

#1 is intact jack, 5years old, about 11 hands, will eat out of your hand but has no further training. He has never been aggressive.

#2 is a jenny, 9 years old, about 12 hands, will eat out of your hand also and likes to be petted and brushed .

FLICKA

BLM Volunteer, Edona Miller, writes:

Flicka, my halter project horse, has made her way back to me. She startled the adopters by jumping their pasture gate. They didn't have a great amount of horse knowledge and had really gone there to adopt a burro, not a horse. Any how I will give you some history on her.

Flicka is a plain brown filly that was gathered, with her dam, Sept 2006. She was aged at about 1.5 months when the horses were preped, Oct. 2006. She was adpoted in the spring of 2007 and returned, for unknown reaons, late Sept 2007. She made way to our house, for halter training. She was leading within days. She was then adopted at the Colusa adoption and was returned yet again. The adopters had really been looking for a burro not a horse.:) Once returned, made it back to Wheatland and has been worked some more. The last adopters made her really solid with her feet and being caught. She can be turned out in pasture and enjoy the company of both horses and people. She will meet you at the gate. I will look up her HMA later. She leads, picks up her feet, been tied, loads into a trailer and is pasture safe. She is located in Wheatland, CA about 45 mins north of Sacramento. You can email me at bewildranch@netzero.net or call my cell at (530)218-4929 for more information or to setup an appointment to see her.

Titled Mustang Family

The owner recently passed away and the horses are being cared for by the visiting nurses who come to care for the widow, whose health is very poor. They need a new home ASAP - it would be nice to keep them together but not necessary. They were all once saddle trained but have not been handled much for the past couple of years, so would need a refresher course of training.

SASSY - Titled BLM Mare

I would like to know if maybe you could help me find a home for Sassy, she is 7 years old  I got her 4 years ago from BLM in Susanville. I will attach a picture of her. She is not broke, but leads and is very gentle and easy going. She also has a crooked left front leg, but doesn't seem to slow her up any..

Any help you could give me to find her a good home......

TWO UNTITLED BLM HORSES NEED HOMES

The gelding is 6 yrs and the mare is 4 yrs.

FM#01216413 - a 6-year old sorrel gelding from Twin Peaks, his name is Mystic - He knows the commands run, walk, trot and turn, he is a little skittish and reserved at first, but warms up to people quickly.

FM#03216706 - ROSE, a 4-year old red roan mare from Devils Garden her name is Rose - Rose is very friendly and wants to be in the action, but hard to get her attention focused. "Rose" can be led, picks up her feet, and can tolerate a rope around her legs.  The adopter says she bites, as in will try and take a big chunk out of you.  We did not see any mouthy behavior from her while we were there.

She adopted them in '04, and now does not want to keep them.  They are not titled.  They are all in panel pens with shelter, and there is a small walkway to a "round" pen, which is where she has been working with them.  They are in need of grooming, and the mare's halter is too small (why is it on in the pen?).

Without doubt, they will need someone who is patient and has some experience.  Their feet need to be tended to (but not as bad as your current project!).

We are hoping to take the third horse from them.  He is a black gelding, also needs work, and some grooming.  I'll send pics of him if we can't.

I feel so bad that for the last three years they've just been stuck in these little pens.  I hope we can get them into good homes.

Thanks,

TOBY, Chestnut Sabino Gelding,
Needs Home

Toby is a wonderful horse.  He has been at Dawn & Bert Lappin's house since May and is now ready to go to somebody that will love him.

He is approx 4 years old, very friendly.  He had been turned loose by his owners to fend for himself and when Bert was called, he went right up to the horse, put a halter on him and he went right into the horse trailer.  BLM came and shaved his neck without any problems, he just stood there.  He is titled and papers are clear.  Dawn has legal ownership.  He really wants a person.  He is at Dawns but adoption inquiries should be directed to Lynda Sanford.

Lynda is going to arrange to have him evaluated to see if he is under saddle yet.

He is very smart, a "people" horse, very affectionate, solid health wise, has all shots, worming and feet care, and dog gentle so far.   We will be asking for a donation to offset Lappin's costs on him, it came out of their pocket.

Adoption inquiries should be directed to Lynda Sanford.

PELE

Pele is a 14’3 hand gorgeous sorrel mustang mare. Sweet, spunky, gentle, and loves just hanging out. She was captive born (her mother was caught in the wild) and is imprinted. At 14 she has done Pony Club, Polo, lots of arena work, and some trail riding. For the past three years she has been mostly ridden as a western pleasure horse, but rides well both English and western.

Pele moves off leg pressure, has a smooth jog and lope, and is very willing to learn. She clips and bathes just fine. She stands for Ferrier, is current on all vaccines and just had teeth floated.

She’s an easy keeper and doesn’t need shoes. Pele is a nice mare that needs an intermediate rider.

Asking $2500 Please call Michelle at 227- 7388

FOX & LAKE PONY
(no photo)

This is another titled horse, the owner would like to put a small value on her (maybe $100-$125), but honestly she would be free to the right home.  These people (2nd owner) had to move to take care of an ailing parent (cancer) and were unable to take this little girl with them.  Our County Animal Control person is providing care for the horse while we look for a home for her.  She is a 3-year old Red Roan from the Fox and Lake HMA (NV), she is about 13h.  She leads, loads (but they let her take her time), good about her hooves, lunges, and has been exposed to a saddle, great with kids!  Unfortunately, I do not have any photos at this time, but I've seen her and she's very cute!  Maybe a pony club prospect?
Thank you,
Videll

BURRO for reassignment
($25 Reassignment Fee):

We have a 4-year old gray gelded burro that needs to be reassigned.  He is in Bella Vista, his name is Carlos and he does respond to his name.  Unfortunately his adopter has had a spell of bad luck and is unable to provide adequate care for Carlos, he has not had his vaccinations updated, has not had his hooves trimmed and is not halter gentled.  He will take food from your hand and has been with goats and sheep and does very well with them (maybe a good predator control guy?).  I've attached a photo of him.

Thank you,
Videll

FM #05218331 HALTER-TRAINED COPPERSMITH HMA FILLY

Kelly Landry (Volunteer Hub Leader) has a yearling brown filly from Coppersmith.  This filly was Kelly's halter project that was adopted in Chico and then returned.  Kelly picked her up and has been continuing to work with her, she obtained a fear of lead-ropes etc., but per Kelly she is "re-associating human contact with trust and kindness", and the filly is doing well and needs to be adopted ($125 adoption fee).

TRAINED DEVILS GARDEN MARE
