Beginning in June, 2008, NEW ADOPTERS IN CALIFORNIA ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE THIS NEW VIDEO:

A project of the California BLM Volunteer Pilot Project, (filmed, edited and produced by "Video Mike" Kerson and Nancy Kerson in cooperation with California BLM) this video features "real people" and real wild horses and burros in various stages of the gentling process. The video does not present a single comprehensive training program, but rather, it offers an introduction to many training methods, along with tips and demonstrations from a wide range of successful adopters - first-time horse owners to life-long ranchers.

The video gives each new adopter plenty of ideas for how to get started and what to do next. Included are connecting and bonding, desensitizing, catching, haltering, leading, picking up the feet, and trailer loading, as well as genral health care - everything you need to reach the "Halter-Trained" stage, when the horse or burro is ready for regular fencing and housing, or could be taken to a professional for saddle training.
