WILD HORSES & BURROS:
DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH

When you go to a BLM Adoption, it's sometimes hard to see through the scraggly coats and nervous or depressed behavior to see what the horse or burro can become, given a chance. Here are some "Before and After" shots that will give an idea of what can be expected. (Send us YOUR Before and After Pix!

BEFORE AFTER
SAPPHIRE - rescued by Ginny Freeman and Adopted By Jan Tofting

SAPPHIRE BEFORE:

This is Sapphire right after she arrived at Ginny Freeman's. She was thin, and bore the signs of terrible abuse: the "fins" at the top of her vertebrae that make up the withers had been crushed off, leaving a gap where the withers should be. She did not trust people at all, needless to say!

Ginny Freeman (above) rehabilitated her, and Jan Tofting (below) adopted her.

SAPPHIRE TODAY:

Today Sapphire lives in an equestrian center where she is a "lesson horse" who helps teach kids how to ride. Jan visits her daily and spoils her with treats and all the kids love her.

the "After" was taken at a dressage show 4.29.06
Lucca: The first was taken 7.06 as an overweight neglected 6 yr. old before we could handle his feet or hardly touch him...

and the second was taken 2 months later 9.6.06. My husband shot pictures of Lucca's first ride but they are on the regular camera.
